Skilled Surgical Care

At our Baltimore animal hospital, we offer a wide range of surgical procedures for cats and dogs while using best-in-practice surgical techniques and following stringent protocols.

During each surgery, a dedicated nurse will provide anesthesia and monitor your pet continuously, using electronic patient monitoring equipment. Pain management will also be administered.

Following surgery, we will take special care to monitor your pet and manage pain. You will also receive thorough instructions from your vet for at-home care.

What to Expect from Surgery

Our veterinarians perform a range of surgeries, from soft tissue procedures to ocular and dental surgeries. We always ensure you are kept fully informed about why we are recommending a procedure and regarding any post-operative care your pet may need at home. We practice stringent surgical protocols at our clinic.

Surgical Procedures

Our vets at Falls Road Animal Hospital routinely perform the following elective and non-elective surgeries.

  • Soft Tissue Surgery

We offer soft tissue surgical procedures for pets suffering from ear, nose and throat disorders.

These procedures are also available for skin, gastrointestinal, cardiothoracic, urogenital, oncological and hepatic disorders.

  • C-Sections

Caesarean sections have us removing kittens or puppies from their mother's uterus. C-sections are usually performed when the mother is unable to give birth naturally.

  • Ocular

If your pet is experiencing redness, pain or other symptoms in or around their eyes, they may need an ocular surgery.

Common ocular procedures for dogs and cats include cataract surgery, entropion surgery, ectropion surgery, tumor removal, cherry eye surgery and exenteration of the orbit.

  • Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic surgeries correct diseases and injuries of the joints, bones, tendons ligaments and other skeletal structures.

  • Spaying & Neutering

When we spay or neuter a dog or cat, we surgically sterilize them to prevent disease and provide them with a longer life expectancy.

  • Dental Surgery

Our vets provide dental surgeries for cats and dogs. These surgeries may range from tooth extractions and jaw fracture repair surgeries to treatment for gum disease.

The Surgery Process

We understand you may be intimidated or scared at the prospect of bringing your pet in for surgery. We can assure you that we always act with your furry friend's best interests in mind when we recommend surgery.

We'll help you fully understand our surgery recommendation, and ensure that you are comfortable making the decision to go ahead.

Surgical protocols at our clinic include:

Pre-surgical assessments. We will explain the details of the procedure, perform a physical examination of your pet, and ensure blood tests have been taken and reviewed by the vet so we can find out if your pet faces any risk of complications from anesthesia.

Dedicated surgical suites. Surgeries are performed in our dedicated surgical suite. We keep this room completely sterile to prevent cross-contamination and infection.

Surgical attire. When in the surgical suite, our staff wear disposable masks and caps at all times. Those involved in the procedure itself will also wear single-use gloves and sterile gowns.

Sterile packs and equipment. We scrupulously sterilize, clean and wrap our equipment and instruments before every surgery.
